Why did you decide to build versus buy an existing home?
We always wanted to have our dream home and when we were looking for houses we just never found something that fit the needs of us and our family. We have two children and we wanted an open-style floorplan. The biggest part is cost, and we were able to build for a very low price per square foot with brand-new materials and every custom option that we wanted.
Why did you choose the On Your Lot Program?
We already had the land, and the land had an existing home so we didn't have to run into understanding where the sewer, water, and electricity were going to come from. The most important part to us was the location. We are centered between both of our works, which makes for an easy commute.
Why did you choose Keystone specifically?
We had looked at a variety of builders between cost, and type of materials that they use, as well as the flexibility and variety of blueprints. When we visited the Devonshire Model in Newtown Square, we immediately fell in love. I thought that the blueprint was fabulous and we were able to add on an in-laws suite for our elderly parents if they would want to come live with us. Keystone had upgraded materials that you could choose from, as well as quality of materials on a better budget. Keystone made it very easy for us to be decorative with up-to-date materials, especially when it came to finishes, tile, LVP, and hardwood. We had great choices that they had already picked out, which made it very easy for us to select without taking a lot of time.
What do you love about the Devonshire Floorplan?
We love being able to entertain. We are constantly having friends over with little ones and our parents. Being on the same floor allows us to watch the kids and talk to everybody while hosting. The Living Room is a beautiful space that makes everyone feel comfortable and happy while they are here. The Devonshire gave us endless possibilities.
Tell us about how you envisioned life in your brand-new home.
I envisioned it the way it is right now. We are hosting every weekend, having friends and family over, and we just hosted our first Thanksgiving here. I envisioned it being a place where everyone had privacy, but also a place where everyone could come together at the same time. Our children have a playroom in the front and the basement, and they each have their own bedroom. Down the road, the house is able to evolve around us and our kids as they get older.
What was the most challenging part of building your home?
The most challenging part of building our home was choosing our final selections. Only going to the Design Studio one time made us a little overwhelmed about what to pick, why to pick, and how to pick.
Advice for a future homeowner
Our advice for a future homeowner is to think about the little details - where you would need an extra outlet, light, or light switch. It would be a good idea to look at the floorplan and draw in where your furniture might go, that way you will know if you need an outlet on the left side and right side of the bed. If you want to save money, you center the outlet and run extension cords. Whatever is in your budget, Keystone is willing to work with you and make it happen.
